Hey Gday the tap is one of the easiest.
You can mount the 3.5mm jack just beside the other green record output.
(so you dont drill through the double case or serial number)

Use a small tantalum capacitor inline.

All good Cheers Pocket

The purpose of the capacitor, is to provide DC isolation between the scanner, and the device you connect to it.
Likewise, using a 10 K resistor prevents/minimises damage to the discriminator chip, in the event you have a short circuit on the output.

I prefer caps for dc isolation. What value cap was that please?

I use pdw alot and would like to run ermes etc via a slicer.

4.7 to 10uF Tantalum - Positive lead to the Discriminator IC.

Who uses ERMES (European Radio MEssaging System) in Queensland?

im not having any issues decoding pocsag with the audio into line in,i just gently play with volume and it comes good freq to freq.

so basically i dont need open my 996t ? Ive heard Ambos incar readouts can be decoded,is this right please?

Even Acars runs perfectly.

So the only 2 i dont get they dont use here huh?..

Id really like to get the ambos readout tho.

Anyone??

The QAS MDTs are Mobitex, which is 4 level FSK, which requires a Discriminator Tap for correct operation.

There are other threads on these forums, about Mobitex and MDTs.

A shielded wire. The centre conductor to the Tip connection of the Mono 3.5mm socket, and the Braid (Shield) to the Sleeve (Earth) connection.

And make sure you don't have Mike Boost ON, on your SoundCard.

There's no need to connect the shield at the pcb end of the cable. Just make sure the other end is soldered to the socket.
There is enough earthing between the pcb and chassis already.
Sounds crazy, but audio amps have been wired like this for years.
